All over the Alpine area the history of the mountain folk has been
marked over the centuries by the difficulties of an often hostile environment, a poor
agriculture and livestock breeding. One can see this by visiting the Museum of Uses and
Customs of the Trentino People located at San Michele all'Adige (15 Km from Trento).Further proof of the local
history, still evident owing to the geographical position of Trentino, is to be found in
the Tridentine Diocesan Museum, in Palazzo delle Albere, and in the museum housed in Buonconsiglio Castle
in Trento (Castello del Buonconsiglio Museum).
In the centre of the
town, the Tridentine Museum of Natural Sciences displays numerous naturalistic
collections, while the house where the futurist painter Depero lived and in which a great
number of his works are exhibited (Fortunato Depero Museum), is open to the public in
Rovereto (25 Km from Trento).
Linked to the very old
origins and religious traditions of Trentino are the crypt in the cathedral and Palazzo
Pretorio in the historic centre of Trento.
Other museums exhibit
evidence of life, uses and traditions, handicraft and work of the people of Trentino.
Particular attention has been given to the memories of the First World War (National
Museum of the Alpini).
